How to download a TikTok video with TTDWN

Copy one public TikTok post link, compare the available video and audio options, and save the file you need without installing an app.

Choose a file after the link check

The video downloader checks the source first. When options appear, choose the file that fits your task. Standard video keeps the picture and sound together. A separate HD option depends on availability; audio is for listening without the picture.

Use the explicit download button for your chosen option and wait while that file is prepared. Do not close the tab just because the source check has finished. File preparation and the browser’s save operation happen after that check.

  1. Copy a public video link you are allowed to download.
  2. Open the video downloader, paste the link and select Download.
  3. Choose an available video option and wait for the save operation.
  4. Open the completed file from your browser’s downloads list.

Check the result before moving it

Play a few seconds near the start and end. Confirm that it is the right post and that the sound is present. If a file looks softer than the TikTok player, compare the same scene at the same size before deciding that the download lost detail.

Use the HD guide if you need to compare source quality. For file compatibility, the MP4 guide covers the difference between a container and the media inside it.

What we checked

These checks use generated local media and the same file-processing code as TTDWN. The upstream extractor is replaced with a local fixture; this is not a test of live TikTok availability or a physical phone.

Measured file properties of the generated sample
FileSize in bytesDuration in secondsDimensionsFrames per second
Generated source MP42536853320 × 56830
Saved MP42536853320 × 56830
Exported MP3136743.06——

The source MP4 and saved MP4 have identical SHA-256 hashes in this check. Saving this available MP4 preserved its bytes, dimensions and frame rate. This does not prove that a TikTok source matches the creator’s original upload or contains an HD version.

The local checks also cover missing or duplicate HD sources, video-audio selection, image order and invalid media files. The test log identifies which behavior uses fixtures and which runs FFmpeg.

Reproduce the check from the repository with: npm run evidence:ttdwn
